Bob Marley was the world's first reggae superstar. He was part of the Jamaican group The Wailers, along with reggae greats Bunny Livingston and Peter Tosh. In the late 1960s and early '70s Marley, a Rastafarian, gained early attention for writing hits recorded by others, including "Stir It Up" (recorded by Johnny Nash) and "I Shot The Sheriff" (a hit for Eric Clapton). But then he came into his own international fame with songs that spoke of politics, religion and life on the streets, including his anthemic "Get Up, Stand Up." A greatest hits compilation titled Legend was released in 1984; it sold millions and earned a reputation as the one reggae album owned by people who own just one reggae album.

History of Ambassadors
The Ambassadors were formed around five years ago by three high school punk rockers with nothing better to do with their lives. After numerous lineup changes they settled on being a five piece band, which consists of Eping Amores on vocals, Bai Nunez and Mark Padayao on guitar, Joseph Agura on bass, and Dennis (Sua) Suarez on Drums. After flirting with a few band names such as , they came up with the mouthful, The Ambassadors Of Goodwill. Since they couldn't able to spell goodwill, they shortened it to The Ambassadors. Why The Ambassadors? They want to spread goodwill through music. I was able to sit down and talk to these hilarious (I had a stomach ache from laughing too hard) guys one night. Sua couldn't make it Eping suggests LBM. Many influences work within the band. Most of the influences, however, are punk and ska (The band used to play ska before they punked out a little). Bands like NOFX, MxPx, Lagwagon, Askals, Strung Out, and Hi Standard are prominent. There are other influences, as well. Mark likes Slash's Snakepit, which is a metal band. Eping claims his biggest influence is Pavarotti. I'll just take his word for it. The band was formed for the love of music. The majority of the band loves punk music. Eping, however, really loves love songs. Since most of them love punk music, the music that came out of their instruments ended up being punk. They claim that what they play is just music. Other people just labeled it punk. An interesting thing about the band is that they don't really hang out with each other outside the band. They usually just meet each other once or twice a week just to practice. They only see -and hang - out with each other during gigs and practice sessions. They usually hang out at home (not the disco, and not as a band) and play their respective instruments. Their favorite places to hang out all by themselves include the bathroom and bedroom. Ever since their humble beginnings as a ska band, The Ambassadors haven't played any cover songs at all -they loathe covers. They have been playing their own songs from the very beginning. Apparently, their attitude towards cover songs has really paid off. They have numerous songs on numerous compilations and have an album entitled 'Chaotic World'. Some of the compilations they have made an appearance in include 'Do Your Feet Hurt?' published by irresponsible records and 'No Harmful Matter' published by S.R.A. Both of these publishers are punk and are affiliated. The Ambassadors not a punk band… yeah, whatever. When I brought this up to them, they told me that their style of music is punk but the lifestyle they lead is not a punk lifestyle at all. Ok, they are a punk band but they aren't punk people. Simple enough. The Ambassadors have played gigs outside of Cebu already. A few months ago, they played a gig in Manila. When in Manila, all the albums they brought along with them sold out. When I asked them how the Manila crowd reacted to their music, they said the Manila people were shocked. "They didn't think the grandchildren of Lapu-Lapu could play music." Their next gig outside of Cebu is going to be in Davao. So everyone in Davao, prepare as the grandchildren of Lapu-Lapu wreak havoc throughout the land. The Ambassadors sing about everything under the sun. Some of their topics include rules for a happy marriage, Mark's tendency to be late, and the NU107 jock Johnny Punk. They even have a song that was based on a letter they received from a friend. I asked them what influences them to write their songs. After a long silence, Eping finally mentioned something about his girlfriend. Ok… Eping is inspired by his loving girlfriend. Isn't that so sweet? Which reminds me, for the ladies out there, Bai and Joseph are both single. What are their goals as a band? Their biggest immediate goal is to graduate from college. What about the future? "We will keep making albums until we make a mark in the music scene." The band is currently filming a video for the opening track from their 'Chaotic World' album 'Times Like This'. The video is being directed by the great Heinrich from the band Smooth friction. Other personnel for the video includes Mark as the hairstylist and makeup artist and Eping as the cook. The video is going to be launched sometime in September at Club Home (lousy venue for events like this) in Cebu Plaza. See you there.

History of Urbandub Band
Cebu-based independent act Urbandub, authors of such tracks as "Come" and "Soul Searching", have been around the cebu music scene since mid 2000 and have released its first full-length album the following year. Titled BIRTH, the album features 10 tracks of what can only be described as "Urbandub Music". Always trying to be unique and ultimately, original, the band is known for its constant experimentation, layered and textured guitars, and the soaring vocals of its vocalist and main songwriter, Gabby Alipe. The group has steadily been gaining nationwide attention, due partly to the growing popularity of their single "Soul Searching" (which won "Song Of The Year" in the recent NU107 Rock Awards X), and partly to the group's recent foray to the burgeoning Manila scene .
